GREENSBORO, N.C.  --- Roanoke's Kayvon Sarmadi (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley)scored the game's only goal in the 62nd minute to lift Roanoke past Guilford, 1-0, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer match Tuesday evening. Guilford falls to 7-10-1 with the loss while the Maroons improved its mark to 11-3-3, 7-0 in the ODAC.

The Maroons, currently ranked sixth in this week's Adidas/NSCAA Division III South Atlantic Poll, scored after a save by the Quakers' Jonathan Shine was deflected right to the waiting foot of Sarmadi. AJ Tierce (Vorrhees, NJ, Cherry Hill)was credited with the assist, the first of his career. Roanoke appeared to score another goal 15 minutes later only to have it called due to an offside’s infraction.

Roanoke, now 23-5-1 against the Guilford, out-shot the Quakers, 17-11, including a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal. Guilford held a slim 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Sarmadi finished with five shots, two on goal along with his fourth game-winner of the season. Chris Collins (Vinton, VA, William Byrd)and Cameron Travalini (Millville, DE, Indian River)totaled three shots each.

Ryan Russell (Danville, VA, GW Danville)earned the win in the goal for Roanoke making three saves in his sixth shutout of the season.  Guilford's Shine had a strong showing the goal turning away eight shots in the loss.
